About the Benedictines

The sisters form a community of monastic women who seek God through prayer, community life, and ministry, bringing a 1500-year tradition into the 21st century. Empowered by the Word of God, they claim their gifts as women in the Church, with an intentional commitment to justice and peace, offering hospitable space in a culture that fosters hospitality. The sisters serve persons with material and spiritual needs in a variety of ministerial settings and challenge structures that diminish human dignity. Because they bear the name Emmanuel, God with us, they commit themselves to be a presence of God in the world. They are a modest group, unassuming and focused on quietly serving those in need.

Together, they live and work in Emmanuel Monastery (2229 W. Joppa Road, Lutherville, MD 21093).
